"Thomas Birthday Card" Bad From The Past!! Bad Drawing #85

I've never posted this oldie, but since I have nothing else to post right now (cuz I haven't drawn in a bit) I figured I'd throw it up. I'll get to this whole drawing a million drawing things soon... I'm kinda focused on some writing stuff.

This was Mika's 7th Birthday card. She's turning 10 this year. I have not improved my drawing skills at all in the last 3 years.

Steam Engine! Bad from the Past! - Bad Drawing #85

REAL drawings still to come, but here I have a little something I did while bored at work.

Mika gave me a coloring book page of an engine... I decided it needed to be more "Thomas"-like and gave it a face... then kept going...

Sort of a drawing?

I'll do better... getting my drawing on this week!!

Bad from the WAY Past! Bad Drawing #84

Yup, here's an oldie for ya while I don't draw right now.

I did this in Grade 11, when I had dreams of being a Disney Animator. I couldn't even cartoon very well, but that didn't matter.

I flat out copied it from a binder. I didn't use any of that lame "Structure" or even tried to get little things like "detail" or "sense" into it. I just sketched it down, and did some awesome shading.

Bad Drawing #84

Gotta start drawing again soon.

What's happening?! And another "A Bad from the Past! - Drawing #58

I've been stupid busy these last weeks... STUPID busy. But not stupid busy doing bad drawings. Until tonight.

Tonight I went to "Dr. Sketchy's" and did some life drawing.

It was the theme show for Camilla D'errico. There is a whole post on that alone, but it will have to wait. I'm tired, I'm kinda sad about how bad the drawings went, and I just flat-out don't feel like doing it.

However, I will post it in the next couple of days, along with some other cool stuff to show... TWO new projects.

And just to have something a little more visual for this post, here's a "Bad from the Past"!!

This one goes WAY back, to when I was 18 and wanted to be Robert Bateman. It's hanging, professionally framed, at my Uncle Hans and Aunt Rea's. Never have I passed it without wanting to take it down and try to fix that poor bears misshapen head.

This was at a time that I LOVED doing my work in Conte, but not with structure.

Had I structured out these bears, maybe the one in front wouldn't have a terrible case of Wonk-Head. It's like a weird tumor breaking through the side of his skull.

Til next time!

Bad from the PAST! Drawing #38

Since all I've been doing is dealing with Christmas-awesomeness til I pass out on the couch, Baileys in hand while Scrooged plays on the TV in the background, I haven't really been sketching.

And I want to... Bad.

So I will. In fact, I will tonight! I think.

I want to do a couple of Christmas drawings in the spirit of the season. So maybe I'll do that...

Until then, here's a "Bad From the PAST!".

I did this last year for my brother, for Christmas. His reaction was pretty much "What... why?" And that's about it.

I call it "ROBOMG!" (Just now. I called it that just now. Creative, no?)

More bad coming... and A BAD FROM THE PAST! (Drawing #36)

I haven't stopped drawing... in fact, I just did a piece that ate up all my free drawing time. I can't post it though (cause it's a Christmas present) but holy crap did it stress me out and push my shitty skillz to their limit.

Overall, I'm happy with it. I'm not completely ashamed to give it as a present, and I got TONS AND TONS of crappy, shitty, bad drawings as I worked to my final work.

So until I have time to do some more crap, here's a "Bad From the Past"

I call it "Finger Fish"

A Bad From the PAST! Drawing #23, 24, 25, 26, 27, 28 - HANDS!

A while back, Ar and I got all inspired to start drawing more, and challenged each other with weekly assignments. Week #1 was "HANDS". We got super excited, bought sketchbooks, erasers, pencils, and then sat on the couch every night that week, drawing away...

My shading isn't the best, but I held my hand out in front of me, and went for it.

No, these are not a girls hands. These are hands that never work hard labor.

Yes, I did a shocker pose. I'm 13.

Never got around to a "week 2" assignment. We got inspired to watch Veronica Mars on DVD instead.

Drawing #14, Bad from the PAST with Guest Artists!

Several months ago, on our way back from Tofino, Me, Jenn Taylor, Arlyn, and Mika, took turns sketching Teen Chan while we took the ferry home.

This is Teen Chan... This is not from when we sketched her

Top Left - Jenn Taylor's sketch. (She of Lucas Animation fame)
Top Right - Mika Bantog's sketch. (Didn't finish)
Bottom Left - Arlyn's Sketch. (She of "Thomas the Tank Engine" and my Girlfriend fame)
Bottom Right - My sketch. (Clearly the best)

I don't know why Teen's face looks so squished in mine. Seemed right at the time. Maybe after a weekend in Tofino, Teen's head was all squished down from too much fun.

Robot Fail?

Well if number grades mean anything, then the Threadless community officially labeled "Robot Party in my Tummy" one of the "Million BAD Drawings"... like 2.37 out of 5 BAD.

You jerks.

Well anyways... that sucks. Robot Tummy was actually just a Flash rendering of this orignial piece "Orgybots 2000", a piece I did for a Deighton's show way back. Arlyn has it now in her office at work.

So after THAT burn, what now? Do I every try the elitist Threadless again? SURE! What else do I have to do?

At least it gives "A Million Bad Drawings" another project.

There is a problem though... I don't want to be the guy harassing everyone on Facebook to vote anymore, so that means posting any new submission and letting it just be judged by the community at Threadless - and those bastards probably won't let me score me through the first day (you can get booted for having too low a score in the first 24 hours)

Well we'll see...

ROBOTS! Yeah I finally did it! Drawing #13

Orgybots is now a T-shirt... or may become one.

So anyone stumbling on this blog, who may or may not spend more than a minute here, please take a look and vote on this. You and I may be strangers, but together we can make dreams come true.

And by dreams, I mean a 60 inch TV to watch Survivor on.

A Bad From the Past! Drawing #4

I haven't had a chance to sketch out any crap lately. Too busy with writing stuff. So, instead, here's a "Bad From The Past"... a new feature on A Million Bad Drawings.

This showed up on Facebook today. A drawing I did in protest to a list of work my coordinator, Heather Renney, wrote on a wipe board for me to do by the end of the day.

The mouse was very angry about all the exports.

As you can see, I have little patience for connecting lines or making sure lines don't intersect. Rather than carefully drawing ears that make sense, or are the same size, I just quickly throw down the lines.

The mouse is giving the middle finger - if you can distinguish anything out of that mess of a hand.

And what the hell with the feet? One is especially gimpy.

And why does it look like his tail is taped on or something?

More "Bad From The Past" drawings to come!
